Anna Anderson, Chapter 6, Question #5
At the very beginning, Wheelan defines human capital as "the sum total of skills embodied within an individual." It makes sense to me that we factor someone's education into consideration when talking about how much money they will earn, but it had never really occurred to me that we should also factor in how creative someone is. I thought that Wheelan's examples were good: the example of Steve Jobs and how when he was fired from Apple, he founded Pixar, which, like Apple, was partially a product of his creativity and entrepreneurship; and how the sultan of Brunei wouldn't do so well for himself, because his wealth is not a result of his own value as a person, it is because he has a lot of oil. The concept of human capital was not one I had thought a lot about.
