Anna Anderson, Chapter 13, Question #5
I thought the whole chapter was really interesting, and applicable to a lot of things I'm interested, like human rights. One part that really struck me was the part about effective government institutions, partially because I think that we overlook how helpful having an effective government is, and because we talk about that a lot in Amnesty. The government is responsible for so much, and if it doesn't work well, the country is in a lot of trouble. Corruption obviously is bad, and it really dooms the country economically, because, as Wheelan says, "it misallocates resources, stifles innovation, and discourages foreign investment."
