I'm usually the first person to go off about environmental issues, especially about deforestation. I also live in the United States, and live a fairly comfortable existence. I'm not making my living off of cutting down trees, so if there are more restrictions on deforestation, it doesn't really effect me. So when the book mentioned the other side of the environmental issues, it stuck with me. I never really think about the people cutting down the trees, just about the trees getting cut down. So even though changing my lifestyle a little to use less paper or turn off the lights seems like a small thing, it's a big thing to someone who is making their living off of the thing I'm using.
I'm not saying that we should stop trying to reduce environmental issues, but instead of just focusing on, say, what we can do to stop the destruction of the rain forests, we should also come up with jobs for them so that when they can't log anymore, they won't be unemployed.
Is there a way to preserve jobs and help with environmental issues?
