Gabbi Johnson, Chapter 5, Question #5
The idea of a single strand of hair containing tons of information about how likely you are to have certain diseases is incredible, but also terrifying. If an insurance company knew that information, they could purposefully target specific people to discriminate against, and the individuals cannot do anything to help themselves since it is written into their genes. I do not believe that the insurance companies should have this information, unless the person agrees for them to know and their insurance plan will not be compromised simply because of what may happen to their body in the future. Especially since in most cases for those diseases, the person cannot prevent themselves from it, unlike in the case of lung cancer due to smoking. The whole situation scares me and I hope it doesn’t become a widespread reality.
