Paula Todhunter, Chapter 5, Question #6

I found the idea of "rational discrimination" very interesting. The criminal background example stood out to me. As much as I hate to admit it, it is logical, in these circumstances, to not hire a black man. They're 28% more likely to have a criminal background. So if you don't have that information, it would make sense to not hire someone who has a higher chance of having a criminal background. It makes perfect sense, but that doesn't mean it's right, fair or just. Usually I associate discrimination with stupidity and nonsense, but it's weird to hear it actually making sense. I don't like it.
