Alexis Turnage, Chapter 3, Question #1
Wheelan brought up the most talked about problem in the world (especially in the United States), texting while driving. Many people text and drive no matter what the rules are. I don't think there is never a dull moment where I don't see someone texting and driving. We're trapped in a world full of technology and it will only get worse as new technology innovations rise to the surface. People take risks anyway no matter what, even if it's deadly. Wheelan says, "Texting is the second-most dangerous thing you can do while driving a car, next to driving drunk" (Wheelan 57). This problem effects everybody including me because I'm worried someone will swerve over and hit me. I put my phone in my backpack or in the back seat. I have had a few people almost rear end me and side swipe me because they were paying attention to their phone. I witnessed someone have their phone taped onto their steering wheel and texting. Texting and driving goes with what Wheelan said, "Externalities are at the root for all kinds of policy issues, from the mundane to those that literally threaten the planet:..." (Wheelan 56).
