Anna Anderson, Chapter 4, Question #4
I remember when I was in elementary school, and we would learn about extinction, and we would always talk about bald eagles and DDT. The DDT was always presented as a bad thing, which I still think it is, but we also never learned about what the true purpose was. I didn't know until I read this chapter that it is used in preventing malaria. I thought that the way the Wheelan presented this was interesting, because he doesn't really ever say that it's bad or good, but presents it as something that has helped us, which, like I said, is a side that has never been expressed to me before. I also thought that the list he presented of those in favor of the use of DDT was surprising–The Sierra Club, WHO, and others. I don't really know where I personally stand, but I thought that he presented the issue in a new way, which was nice.
