Paula Todhunter, Chapter 2, Question #5
I found the idea of incentives really interesting. There are jobs, like a salesperson, where you get paid commission so obviously this is an incentive to make them work harder. But there are also jobs where performance based incentives doesn't really work out. He talked about teachers in the book and I think this is a complicated one. In English last year we talked about the idea of teachers getting paid by their students' test scores. So if your students are scoring higher then you must be doing a good job, so you get more money. Makes sense, but Mrs. Myers pointed out to us that students' scores on a test aren't solely dependent on the teacher they have. A lot of different components go into a students grade and most of them are student choices. It can get very complicated. I can see how incentives is a treaty road.
